Google began as a university project in 1995 by two Stanford students: Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Their first great idea was to create a search engine from which people could access information stored on the web, and from then on, the amount of products and innovations they have designed has been incredible. To talk about the history of Google Company refers to a company that has marked the way of life of millions of people for a decade and a half. For example, many people, from professional programmers to teachers or
essay writers, now use Google search operators more easily to find what they want.
Key dates to understand Google’s history
1996: Larry and Sergey Brin started cooperating on a search engine called BackRub. 1998: The name Google was born, and the first offices opened. 1999: $25 million investment is raised, and the current Googleplex headquarters is opened 2001: Google becomes available in 26 languages Google Company history can told from a chronological perspective. Still, today, we want to tell it from the perspective of the people who have made it possible for this company to set the standard for the growth of today’s web and the most excellent products they have created.
When did Google appear? From the idea to the first version
Larry Page and Sergey Brin met in 1995, when they were 24 and 23 years old, respectively, at an event organized by Stanford University. Both had a common goal: to get relevant information from a large amount of data. In January 1996, they began collaborating on a search engine called BackRub. This was the name initially given to Google. Larry started working on achieving a server environment that would run on low-end PCs and would not require powerful machines to operate.
Origin of the current name
The name arrives from a play on the term “googol”, stamped by Milton Sirotta to refer to the number represented by a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The term reflects the company’s mission to organize the vast amount of information available on the web and worldwide.
How was Google founded? The first hundred thousand dollars
During 1998, Larry and Sergey being highly motivated continued to work on perfecting the search technology they had developed. They used their dorm rooms as data centers and offices. With this infrastructure in place, they began looking for investors to help them finance their innovative technology, which was superior to anything that had existed to date. Despite the dotcom fever at the time, Larry and Sergey had little interest in starting their own company, whose business was the search engine they had developed.
Larry and Sergey’s first office
Among these potential investors was David Filo, a friend of the two and one of the founders of Yahoo! Filo encouraged them to develop the project themselves, creating a company based on the search engine when it was fully developed. Although the potential was enormous, they met with the refusal of many portals, which considered having a good search engine secondary to their objectives. So, they decided to start the project, look for capital to leave the rooms; and finish paying for all the materials they bought for the servers. They made a business plan and went looking for investors. Andy Bechtolsheim, one of the founders of Sun Microsystems, immediately saw that Google had enormous potential. They could only show him a small demo, but it was enough for him to immediately give them a check for $100,000, made out to Google Inc. But there was a slight problem: no company called Google Inc. yet, so they couldn’t even cash the check! A couple of weeks later, they decided to look for new investors among family; friends, and acquaintances to start the company.
How did Google become a reliable company?
On September 7, 1998, Google Inc. had its own offices in Menlo Park, California; a luxury compared to the situation they had been in until then. Google.com, still in beta, had about 10,000 searches every day. The press started talking about the new search engine and its excellent performance. In 1999 they raised $25 million from two major investors: Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Buyers. The modest offices were already too small for all of Google’s managers and employees; so they moved to the Googleplex, Google’s current headquarters in Mountain View, California. New and vital customers gradually arrived: AOL/Netscape chose Google as their search engine service, making over 3 million daily searches. What started as a university project was already a large company with impressive growth. On September 21, 1999, the label identifying Google.com as a beta version disappeared from Google.com.
Who are the founders of Google?
Although Google currently has approximately 40,000 employees and many great figures in development; marketing and business have been involved in the growth of this company. We will mention the names of the 2 founders of Google.
Sergey Brin
This mathematics and computer science student was the creator of the idea of Google; along with Larry Page, as part of his thesis project. It seems like Sergey didn’t ask himself questions like – what should I do and didn’t write
where do you see yourself in 10 years essay because he knew it. His first project, the beta of Google, was BackRub; a crawler that used to explore the web from the Stanford University website. Together with his partner Sergey Brin, they developed the PageRank algorithm; capable of helping to rank the information contained on the World Wide Web according to its popularity.
Larry Page
This Stanford engineering student is the co-creator of Google. After conceiving this wonderful idea, he raised one million dollars from friends; family and small investors to launch this company in September 2004. Today Google receives more than 6 billion searches every day. In September 2013 he was ranked No. 13 on the Forbes 400 list of America’s richest men.
Where is Google located?
Google is currently headquartered in Mountain View, Santa Clara, California. This headquarters is known as the Googleplex.
What does Google look like today?
Currently, the company has more than 60,000 employees and has offices in more than 50 countries. In addition, Google has different products that make it very popular; such as Google Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Google Play, and Google News. That is Google: the company that has beaten all other
technology companies in its ability to put trial and error into practice and to assume the latter as simple experimentation in pursuit of the development of unique, helpful, and, above all, technologies that have transformed the way we live forever.
