6 Ways to Become an Avid Reader

Different people have different ways to gather information. Some love watching videos, some prefer to listen to audio and some prefer to read. If you are not an avid reader or don’t like reading it can be challenging for you to buy books and read through them in one go, initially. However, it is certainly not impossible if you trick your brain and find the best ways to become an avid reader.

Here are 6 ways to become an avid reader.

Read Topics That You Love

Even when you are not a reader you might have other interests and hobbies. Find books that cover those subjects and that would encourage you to read more. If you are not sure what books to find you can always look for more information online. Believe it or not, social media has boosted reading and many people find new titles online. Reading what you care about would be the easiest way to get the right start.

Read Short Stories and Newspapers

If you have never been a reader, reading multiple pages and chapters might seem like an uphill climb. Don’t try to read yourself to boredom. Start your reading journey by reading short paragraphs and short stories. This will take a few minutes of your time and you can get back to what you were doing. Also, if you are not much into books, you can read a reputed newspaper that would help you get into the habit of reading.

Set a Reading Schedule

Setting a fixed schedule would help you complete the book you are reading. Allot yourself a time in the day to help you continue with your reading habit. You can initially set a 15-minute reading schedule and gradually you can increase the time for reading but maintain your reading schedule. On the other hand, you can set a 10-page rule to ensure you don’t bore yourself.

Don’t Rush

It is alright if you don’t feel like reading for a day, especially when you are exhausted. There is no need to rush to complete a book. However, make it a point you read the next day to ensure that you don’t break your reading rhythm. If you are not a reader you would want to pace yourself with all the books

Join a Book Club

There are plenty of book clubs you can find offline and online as well. You can join these book clubs that allow you to engage with people reading the similar or same book. This would allow you to discuss the characters, situations and the arc of the story. You may also get insights and reviews about various books which you might want to read later.

Listen to Audio Books

You can also start your reading journey with an audiobook. Although you are not reading a book here it can introduce you to the world the author has created, or the subject that interests you. This would help you to gradually pick a book and read more similar topics and stories and become a reader.
